Bluetooth technology for wireless connectivity: Eliminate Those Clumsy Wires!

By Elizabeth Wills

Mobiles phones are probably the best things to have happened to us in the past few years. Today, there is hardy any person who doesn't have a mobile handset. Mobile phones are no more a luxury item, they have become a way of life for us. With the arrival of various mobile manufacturing companies, options for us have also increased. If we don't like the handsets of a particular brand, we can easily have a look at the products of another company. The mobile market is very competitive. In order to stay ahead in the mobile market, mobile manufacturers are trying to offer us the latest technologies with their handsets. Bluetooth is one of these many technologies.

Bluetooth is a revolutionary technology that has eliminated the need for clumsy wires in the connectivity process. Before the advent of Bluetooth, we used USB port to download or upload music files, video clips, pictures or any file to our PC. The time consumed during uploading or downloading was irritative. But the advent of Bluetooth technology has done wonders for us. Bluetooth is capable of transferring files to compatible devices quickly. Whats more, you need not pay anything for sending any music or video to another handset. Remember those days when you required to pay money for sending any video clip or music file to your friends number! Wasnt that a big cut on your pocket?

Bluetooth technology for wireless connectivity offers quick and powerful communication between various devices within a small area. Unlike Infrared, Bluetooths range is larger and devices are not required to keep aligned. Bluetooth technology is not only used in mobile phones. Nowadays, it has been excessively used in computer mouse, keyboard, printer, digital cameras and other hand-held computing devices.

In 1994, Jaap Haartsen and Sven Mattisson, two Ericsson employee, developed the Bluetooth specification in Lund, Sweden. The Bletooth Special Interest Group ( SIG ) formalized it and announced its official use on 20th May, 1998. Since then, Bluetooth technology for wireless connectivity has been excessively used worldwide.
